Ryosuke Jikuya

Young Investigators, Yokohama City University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan

Ryosuke Jikuya, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at Yokohama City University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, and a member of the Laboratory for Cancer Genomics at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Tokyo and his M.D. from Gunma University, and completed his Ph.D. in Urology at Yokohama City University.

Dr. Jikuya’s research focuses on the molecular characterization of renal cell carcinoma, particularly hereditary and rare kidney cancers. His work integrates multi-omics approaches—including genomics, bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics—to elucidate tumor heterogeneity, tumor evolution, and the tumor microenvironment. Through these integrative analyses, he aims to advance precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies for patients with kidney cancer.

He has led and contributed to several studies defining the molecular landscape of rare kidney cancers. His recent work developed a comparative transcriptome atlas to assist in the classification of complex kidney cancers, published in Nature Communications in 2025. His current research focuses on the clinical implementation of technologies for accurate classification of complex kidney cancers, while integrating spatial transcriptomics to gain deeper insights into tumor heterogeneity.
